Cotswold Lavender farm was one place that I longed to visit during my time in England. Since the month of July is peak lavender season, all of the flowers were in full bloom and it was truly like living a dream! As you read on, get a small glimpse into this beautiful lavender farm and enjoy learning about everything it has to offer.
Fields of Purple
As I was driving out of Snowshill village, from a distance, I started to see the fields of purple. My excitement grew more and more! My windows were down, as it was a gorgeous sunny day, and I could already smell the scent of lavender. As my husband and I drove up the driveway to enter the parking lot, the pleasant aroma got stronger and stronger. I was so excited to finally be there in person!
A Functional Farmstead
Cotswold Lavender farm is not only a beautiful place to visit with all it’s purple blooms, it’s a highly functional farm. There is around 45 acres of farmland, and 35 different varieties of lavender growing in their fields. As a gardening enthusiast, seeing all of the different varieties of Lavender all in one place was so wonderful. With the different varieties of lavender, you’ll find multiple shades of purple, as you can see in my photographs.
After the lavender is harvested, it is brought to a distillery where they extract the essential oils. I learned that they produce 1.5 tons of oil each year that is used in their products as well as to supply other manufacturers.
As you enter the farm, you will see a cabin, where they sell lavender products like lavender infused lotions, tea, and lavender ice cream from a local farm. I purchased the earl grey lavender tea, and it was so delicious! My husband and I also treated ourselves to the lavender ice cream and walked around the fields while we savored it.
A Pollinator’s Paradise
If I was honeybee or a butterfly, Cotswold Lavender Farm is where I would want to be! It’s amazing to see so many pollinators in one place, serving the purpose that God gave them. I have a deep appreciation for pollinators and the entire process of pollination.
Aside from the lavender fields, the farm is also home to 4 acres of native and traditional wildflowers including poppies, cornflowers, daisies, & chamomile. They have winding paths throughout the fields, so you can wander and enjoy looking at the beautiful flowers.
Fun in the Woodland
At the edge of the farm, you can explore the new Beechwood Trail. It’s a great place for children to run around and play, and it offers shade on a warm, sunny day. When you’re walking through the woodland trails, you’ll find a little teepee camp, a bug hotel, and bridges made of logs. It was a neat addition to the whole experience, and I can tell that the owners put a great deal of thought into making it special for their visitors.
I truly had the perfect day at Cotswold Lavender Farm. The whole experience was wonderful and memorable. If you are ever visiting England in the summertime and decide to venture out to the countryside, I highly recommend making a stop to the farm.
